Shaft-Hub Connections

In the FVA-Workbench, shaft-hub connections (occasionally referred to in the Workbench as "WNV") can be inserted between shafts and gears or as a coupling between two shafts. The starting point must always be a shaft; the other side can either be a gear on the base shaft or another shaft.

Shaft-hub connections are found at different levels of the Model Tree, depending on whether it was added to a gear or between shafts:

  • The shaft-hub connection is not directly considered in the overall system, the gear is fixed to the shaft.

  • The loads transmitted by the shaft-hub connection are automatically determined from the gear load.

Suitable for simple gears

  • The shaft-hub connection is considered as a coupling in the overall system. The stiffness can be user specified. By default, it is assumed that the coupling is rigid.

  • The loads transmitted by the shaft-hub connection are determined directly in the system.
